SUSTAINABILITY
The Philippines often struggles to find the balance between economic growth and the protection of the environment.
The poorly regulated agriculture sector has led to soil erosion, water pollution, and the loss of biological diversity over the last few decades.
The slow introduction of modern and sustainable agriculture practices, inadequate investments and poor market linkages do not allow farmers to generate adequate financial returns and progress from subsistence into commercial farming.
Providing solutions
At Narra, we look at agricultural systems as part of larger ecosystems and carefully determine the most appropriate nature-based solutions to improve the functions and resilience of the affected ecosystems.
Providing solutions
When designing a new programme, we look at three major considerations: the ecosystem, people, and livelihoods. That allows us to define a solution that builds farmers’ resilience, increases their income, and protects the environment they live in.
Building Capacities
The agriculture sector has been gradually departing from the long-standing paradigm of maximising production at the expense of soil degradation, water pollution, and biodiversity loss. The capacity building component is an integral component of all Narra Oceania programmes. We equip farmers with the necessary skills & knowledge in climate-smart & regenerative farming and in farm & enterprise management.
Farm Improvements
Innovation and technology drive much of the growth in agricultural productivity. Often relatively small improvements in farming practices can lead to significantly higher yields and better financial returns. The Narra team of experts specialise in designing and implementing comprehensive farm improvement programmes to increase farm productivity and overall farm value.
Climate resilience
Smallholder farmers are one of the most vulnerable groups in Filipino society and face constant obstacles (e.g., adverse weather conditions, commodity price fluctuations, etc.). At Narra Oceania, we believe that thriving farming communities are essential for sustainable agricultural growth. Our programmes help farmers to diversify their livelihoods, obtain better income, and become more resilient.
OUR FOCUS
Markets
Linkages to lucrative markets are critical for smallholder farmers to obtain good financial returns. Check out our Markets section to find out how Narra helps farmers to become part of global commodity value chains.
